Liverpool's Arena and Convention Centre Nominated for Top Green Awards
7 May 09ACC Liverpool has been shortlisted for two awards in the annual Northwest Business Environment Awards hosted by Mersey Basin Campaign in Partnership with NWDA.
The venue, which is one of the greenest facilities of its type in Europe, has been nominated in the Sustainable Procurement and Environmental Leadership categories for championing environmental issues in the workplace as well as its commitment to buying sustainable services, products and materials.
The awards celebrate the region's business carbon-crusaders, waste-recyclers, energy-savers and eco-buildings.
Bob Prattey, Chief Executive of ACC Liverpool, said: "We have high expectations for environmental management in the workplace. Since the organisation began, sustainability has been at the heart of everything we do here at ACC Liverpool.
"To be nominated in the Northwest Business Environment Awards is a great achievement because it means people are recognising and celebrating our practices."
ACC Liverpool's insulation and air control system is inherently efficient through the latest building management systems, requiring 20% less energy than a traditional build and reducing the venue's C02 emissions by 20%. Five 20 metre low-noise wind turbines contribute to ACC Liverpool's power provision. Rainwater is collected on the roof of the building; then used to flush toilets, accounting for 40% less water usage.
ACC Liverpool is also home to the "Green Dream Team" – the venue's in-house SWAT team of enthusiastic staff and service partners committed to making the way the venue does business greener and cleaner.
The awards ceremony, which is supported by the Mersey Basin Campaign and the Northwest Regional Development Agency, takes place at Old Trafford, Manchester, on June 25th.
