MTV Fans warned of ticket scam

29 Aug 08

Bogus tickets for this year's MTV Europe Music Awards in Liverpool are being touted for thousands of pounds on the internet.

Officials at the Echo Arena, which is hosting the event on Thursday November 6th, are warning fans not to be conned into buying the fakes.

Legitimate tickets do not go on sale until September but a number of websites are already advertising VIP packages for the show costing more than £1000 per person.

Tim Banfield, Echo Arena Liverpool General Manager, said: "These tickets are not genuine and I would warn any fans attempting to purchase them to think again.

"Official tickets do not go on sale until September and details of how to buy them will be announced in the press over the next few  weeks .

"The MTV Europe Music Awards is a spectacular event and tickets for the show will be in huge demand, however, anyone in possession of a fake ticket will not be admitted to the show.

"We do not tolerate ticket touts and we stress to all fans only to purchase tickets for all Echo Arena events through legitimate organisations."

This is the third time that the UK has hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards. Previously the event has been held in London (1996) and Edinburgh (2003).

The event will be held in the state of the art 10,600-seat event and concert facility. The Echo Arena Liverpool sits under the same roof as the BT Convention Centre featuring 1,350 seats, a 3725 sq metre multi-purpose hall 18 meeting rooms and total exhibition space is in excess of 7000 sq metres.
