21 Aug 08 Oasis's comeback gig has become one of the fastest selling concerts ever at the Echo Arena Liverpool. The Gallagher brothers kick off their 18-date UK arena tour in Liverpool on October 7th & 8th to promote new album, Dig Out Your Soul.
More than a thousand fans queued, some camping overnight, in a bid to get their hands on the coveted tickets.
At 9am today (Wednesday) when tickets went on public sale the arena's box office lines were receiving 10,000 calls per minute and the website had more than 50,000 visitors.
Tim Banfield, general manager of the Liverpool Echo Arena, said: "The demand for tickets has been phenomenal.
"We were well aware this gig was likely to cause a stampede for tickets and we brought in extra box office staff to cope with the demand.
"The concerts were completely sold out within hours of going on sale which makes this our fastest selling gig ever.
"This is Oasis's first major arena tour for several years and for the lucky people who managed to get their hands on tickets it promises to be one of the concerts of the year."
A spokesperson for the band said, "The demand for tickets this morning was just immense. All the ticket sites slowed down severely but nothing crashed and the system worked very smoothly. We want to thank the fans for their patience and look forward to seeing you all at the shows".
The Oasis comeback gig is one of a number of high profile events at ACC Liverpool this year. Other highlights include the MTV awards and BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
