E.ON named as the official energy supplier to Liverpool's Arena and Convention Centre
8 Jan 08E.ON, one of the UK's leading power and gas companies, has been appointed as official supplier to Liverpool’s showpiece arena and convention centre to supply all the complex's energy needs.
The five-year agreement will see E.ON supply electricity from a renewable source to ACC Liverpool, home of the Echo Arena and the BT Convention Centre. The deal follows an agreement reached towards the end of last year for E.ON to supply gas to the complex, which is on the historic Kings Waterfront next to the River Mersey.
The £164m venue officially opens on Saturday (12th January) when ex-Beatle Ringo Starr will perform at the official opening event to mark Liverpool’s tenure as European Capital of Culture.
Peter Haigh, Director of B2B at E.ON, said: "We are proud to be named as the official supplier to ACC Liverpool. We've long recognised that the increasing prosperity of Merseyside, alongside the city region's continued regeneration, offers a business like ours real opportunities for growth.
"Our expertise in energy supply management and efficiency enables us to do something more than simply supply power; we can help a company's balance sheet by analysing and improving the way they use energy on a day to day basis.
"Increasingly, we notice that our ability to supply renewable energy is seen as important for organisations with a strong sense of corporate social responsibility, enabling our business customers to demonstrate a real commitment to their local communities and help in combating climate change."
As well as being the official energy supplier to ACC Liverpool, E.ON is aiming to bring a series of high-profile events to the facility.
Bob Prattey, Chief Executive of ACC Liverpool, said: "We are delighted that E.ON is coming on board as official energy supplier. Their track record and commitment to producing energy from renewable sources is a perfect fit with our commitment to building and running the most environmentally-friendly facility of its kind in the UK, if not Europe.
"E.ON is an internationally-renowned brand and this deal will deliver real value to both parties in terms of new business opportunities and national and international profile."
