Prominent local businessman David McDonnell CBE has been appointed as the new chair of Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool Ltd.

David said: "Although my work has been based in London for more than 20 years, I have continued to live in Liverpool and have always strived to play a part in the local community.

"Since ACC Liverpool opened its doors, it has played a vital role in the regeneration of the city and provided a huge boost to the economy and I will be looking to support and advise on its continued success."

Chief executive Bob Prattey added: "David's wealth of experience and strong professional credentials alongside his clear commitment to and understanding of the city of Liverpool are a welcome addition to our board."

Although since 1989 David McDonnell's office base has been in London, he and his family took the decision to continue living in south Liverpool to maintain and strengthen their ties with the local community.

He is an Honorary Fellow of Liverpool John Moores University in recognition of his contribution to the life of the City of Liverpool and in 2005 he was awarded the CBE in recognition of his contribution to cultural life.

McDonnell, who is a keen sailor, is married to Marieke and has three daughters, Emma, Sarah-Jane and Sophia.

ACC Liverpool Ltd is owned by Liverpool City Council and operates the Arena and Convention centre facilities on the council's behalf.  The company has its own Board of Directors, populated by both Liverpool City Council representatives and independent non-executive directors.
